Unapologetically authentic space for unapologetic reflections on Zimbabwean and Global politics, social justice, and the human condition: blending sharp critique with creative thought to challenge power and inspire change.
People take sides, like they do with sports teams. One party is “My Side”, the “Good Guys”. Anytime your party’s the loser, and not in power, and the party that IS in power pushes their agenda aggressively, to you the president is a ‘strongman’ or a ‘dictator’. How did ED get this overwhelming power? Zimbabweans elected a majority of CCCs to sit in the Senate, … Continue reading “The president is a strong man and a dictator”
Could we just brush up on history, please? Remember that the Soviet Union spent ten years trying to crush an Islamic insurgence in Afghanistan? That really ended well for them, didn’t it? So, their Deciders think it will end up better for them because — of what, exactly? When you consider that the USA supported the Taliban in Afghanistan to the tune of more than … Continue reading A lost cause
You Americans are luvvies- warm, friendly, generous– and much too polite lately. Why are you sitting around sucking your thumbs and sucking up the Biden BullShit? Are you utterly spineless? Of course politicians have no spines, just like they have no scruples. Politicians may start with principles and a conscience but those who try to act accordingly are weeded out at the lower levels. The … Continue reading The Morden-Day America.
I loved Holidays when I was a kid, but these days I just can’t stand the relentless materialism. The obnoxious ads that equate money spent on consumer goods with “love” make me sick to my stomach. I’m not giving you the Puritan rant about plastic Santas and American kids who gobble sugary junk and have too many toys. I’m not against pleasure. But somehow they … Continue reading The American way, s#cks.
Right now, I see a race between the corruption scandals destroying the RP and the RP destroying Zimbabwe. I hope the scandals will develop quicker: Give voters a heads-up about what’s happening. I hope that every one of those crooks cops a plea, and dumps everything he knows about all the others– until the whole, corrupt, crony-ridden, hateful system comes crashing down. But I don’t … Continue reading The Greatest race.
Imagine walking down a dark alley-way lined with brick buildings, garbage and junk. Then, at the end, a light turns on, flickering. Under that is a man dressed in old clothes with holes, no socks or shoes….
He is sitting on a grocery bag. He has a beard and scratches on his face, bruises too. He’s crying. He has a dog with scraggly fur and only three legs. I walk to him. He waves at me but with only three fingers. He smiles with black teeth. I ask about the scars. He says it was a cat. I ask why he is not on the street asking for money. He answers that he does not want money from people. I slowly take a green twenty-dollar bill out of my pocket, my week’s pay. I tell him that he is the only person on the street that I’ll give money to. Then the light starts to flicker again and the man crawls back into his box. The light turns off. I think what my life would be like if I was him. As I walk away, I think about how this man had changed my life.
End homelessness? Why? Why would you want to do that? I mean, none of us wants the mentally ill to be wandering around the streets without medicine or shelter. We want to cure disease. We want to feed the hungry, clean up crime in the parks. End littering! But homelessness? What ever happened to freedom? Why should a person have to live in a house, … Continue reading Why would we end homelessness?
You’re not big, you’re fat. Let’s be slightly more truthful. Sometimes being the bigger person means smiling and nodding while fantasizing about punching the other person in the throat. Not just because they called you fat but because they absolutely deserve it. The truth remains that you’re round around where your edges are supposed to […] The Bigger Person Continue reading The Bigger Person
“If you’re searching for that one person who will change your life, look in the mirror.” -Unknown I talk about self-love a lot because it’s something I’ve been working on and learning how to do for many years and realize it’s going to be a constant practice. Intentionally doing things that are going to help […] […] 4 Benefits Of Self-Love — Goals & Good Vibes Continue reading 4 Benefits Of Self-Love — Goals & Good Vibes
