THE PARADOX OF LOBOLA~ The Gynocentric System

Millennials may have popularized hookup culture and the notion of “friends with benefits,” that is promiscuity.
Karen Kaplan

There is nothing desirable for modern man to part with his money in the name of paying Lobola. The Gynocenteic systems have ruined family institutions by striping off man’s masculinity and as protector and provider of the family. Modern man has been enslaved and imprisoned in these modern destroyed once sacred institutions. Traditionally, marriage was a sign that man was willing to commit in return the wife will be faithful and submissive to his man. Polygamy was for the wealthy class who were able to pay bride price as well providing their families. Hence Lobola was for two reasons commitment from men and submissiveness from women.

Traditionally, lobola had a far deeper significance than simply the acquisition of cattle money photo sessions and other material things. However, there is a twist of fate recently Lobola has become extortion. Daughters are seen as a means of financial gain, and parents can be known to charge exorbitant amounts as “bride prices”. This exploitation has led the the writer to speak out against lobola, in light of the approved and protected social behavior it has thrown a lot of men into depression anxiety and death.

Given the sexual rampage by a lot of married women, for financial support. Why modern men would go to secure a loan or invest in a women who has a number of abortions and has tried all sort of contraceptive tablets who has been promiscuous at her youthful age. The writer believes that Lobola must be considered as a grace for virgins, unfortunately thus not the case we still have town doormats and man sluts who can do everything in order to get laid. The writer now in his book 62 days in January has argued that Lobola must be legally attached to compensation once a women break the agreement that should be tied on Lobola payments and that is submission and being faithful.

Culturally, lobola was a token of appreciation to the in laws for up bringing a daughter with values and in most cases the “price” fixed was in proportion to the reputation of both the girl and the family status. A lot of women are in support of this custom. One finds very few opposed to it. It gives pride to women that they have been paid for large sums of money. However, in return they do not want the same culture to be reciprocated through being submissive and faithful. This makes the whole process of Lobola as a culture of extortionism. The argument that is often raised is that they are well-educated, they have been raised well and all sorts of things that are included in the negotiating process. I always fail to understand this logic; raising a daughter well is not so that she can find a good man, it is so that she can be a great human being. An education is to benefit her too; it is not there to serve her future husband. Especially given the liberalization of marriage institutions.

It is not wise for modern man to reward sluttery by paying Lobola for a non-virgin woman. It must be a reward for abstaining from sex. The same cannot be said for men. More importantly how can modern man pay for something he can get for free it is not a wise trade-off. Imagine after paying large sums of money as dowry the same wife can file a divorce and claim mantainance on top of that. In persuit of peace of mind modern man must pay Lobola in installments as a reward for good habits and behavior after living with a women for a particular time.

There’s no “us.” There’s no “them.” There’s only the comfort of pretending there is. People need enemies the way lungs need air.
